MAGGIE PLOENER
Artist Statement

My  images emerge from pools of liquid. While I either pour or spray pigment on Denril drafting vellum, I meditate with the ethereal images as they arise. As the pigments dry, I rework the images. Most  of the images are layered, with wash and spray. Sometime I bath and spray them in clear water.  They are informed by my study of the figure, summer sunsets over Lake Oscawana (the lake I live by), and the vistas I have seen during my long road trips in the car.

This aqueous medium is a combination of a homemade water-based soy medium, dry pigment, ink, and acrylic paint. A variety of textures are created from this beautiful liquid concoction.  When I paint  on vellum the texture is integral to both the process and the final outcome. When dried and cured, this soy medium is more vibrant than any commercial paint.

Once completed, I ask viewers to tell me what images they see. As paintings are savored it is gratifying to have these shared experiences with my audience.
